What a booking includes:
- 90 minutes exclusive access to the Museum
- A talk and demonstration focused on the history of surgery in our Operating Theatre, 1822-1862, including the introduction of anaesthetic and antiseptic practices
- Time to explore the museum, interact with our exhibits and collections, and complete our educational activities
Time for discussion and questions about key elements of surgical history covered in the Museum
How to make a booking:
- Choose the session best suited to your group using the buttons above.
- Use the calendar to check availability. Available dates and times will appear in green.
- Complete our booking form and payment information.
- Wait for your confirmation email – keep an eye on your spam/junk folders.
- Payment information will be sent approximately one month before the date of the booked visit. Payment is required before you visit.

Please note that we are a small and busy part-time team. We will prioritise responding to questions that are not covered on our FAQ or elsewhere on the website.
Policies and restrictions:
We are strictly limited to 50 people per group for safety reasons.
KS4 groups should maintain at least a 1:15 staff to student ratio. This means a maximum of 45 students and 3 adults.
KS2 and KS3 groups should maintain at least a 1:10 staff to student ratio. This means a maximum of 45 students and 5 adults.
Group bookings only take place Monday-Wednesday. We cannot accommodate group bookings on other days of the week.
There are no public toilets on site.
Access is via 52-step spiral staircase.
No food or drink can be consumed onsite.
Groups that arrive late will still finish on time.
Groups must arrive together – individual latecomers may not be admitted.
Our cancellation policy applies to all bookings:
- Bookings cancelled with 4 weeks’ notice will incur no charge
- Bookings cancelled with 3 weeks’ notice will incur a 25% charge
- Bookings cancelled with 2 weeks’ notice will incur a 50% charge
- Bookings cancelled with 1 week’s notice will incur a 75% charge
- Bookings cancelled with less than 1 week’s notice (including on the day no-shows) will be charged the full price of the booking.
