Join us this October Half-Term for our free family day at The Old Op! Come explore our collection and join a drop-in art workshop in a relaxed day exclusively for families.
What to expect:
- Learn about the historic Operating Theatre & Herb Garret in short, family friendly introductions to the Museum at 11am & 2pm.
- Get creative in a drop-in art workshop.
- Discover natural remedies in our sensory Herb Garret, then make your own pomander to take home.
- Meet the Museum’s famous medical leeches.
- Explore the Museum’s collection, self-led family trails, drawing activities, and more at your own pace.
Who is this event for?
All families with children under 13 years old are welcome to join us for free. This initiative is part of our commitment to making our collections accessible to families who may face barriers to visiting. No proof of financial need is required – all families are welcome!
Do I need to book?
You can book a free ticket on our website. Tickets will also be available at the front desk. Please note that due to the fact we are a small Museum, if we reach our legal capacity, you may be asked to wait until space becomes available, even if you have prebooked a ticket. If you have booked a ticket and are no longer able to attend, please email [email protected] so this can be allocated to another family.
Do I need to come for the whole session?
We have two time slots available: morning and afternoon. You are welcome to join for as little or as long as you’d like.
Please note that the Museum will close between sessions, so please allow yourself enough time to take part in the activities during your visit.
Accessibility:
The Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret is a historic building based in the attic of a 320-year-old church. Entrance is via a 52-step narrow spiral staircase, and we do not have a toilet onsite. We have a small back-of-house lift which can be used for entry if needed.
