Carol Seigel, Chair
Carol recently retired as Director of the Freud Museum London, Sigmund Freud’s last home, a position she had held since 2009. An experienced museum professional, with a particular interest in small historic house museums and nineteenth and twentieth century London.
She previously worked in curatorial and learning roles at the Jewish Museum, Hampstead Museum and the Museum of London. She is also Vice Chair of the Charles Dickens Museum. In her spare time, Carol enjoys the theatre, contemporary novels, tennis, and long walks in the country.
Dr Katy Barett, Vice Chair
Dr Katy Barrett is Deputy Curator of Art and Head of Interpretation at the Houses of Parliament. Previously she was Curator of Art Collections at the Science Museum, London (2017-21) and Curator of Art, pre-1800, at Royal Museums Greenwich (2013-17).
She has held various posts at national and university museums, including the British Museum, Natural History Museum, Whipple Museum of the History of Science, and Waddesdon Manor. She has higher degrees in History of Art and History of Science
Michael Clayton, Treasurer
Michael is a qualified accountant and has specialised in the not for profit and charity sector since immigrating to the UK from Australia in 2010 and has worked at the London Library, Royal Society, the Royal Institution of Great Britain and the Geological Society of London.
He has loved the Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret since arriving in London and has attended many events and lectures over the years
Bethan Knights
Bethan is an RIBA Accredited Conservation Architect specialising in working on and within the setting of historic buildings. She is currently an Associate at Pritchard Architecture, a heritage led architectural practice based in Portsmouth.
She has a particular passion for working with museums and trusts and during her career has worked on a wide range of such projects including; The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, Resurrecting a D-Day Veteran, Allen Gallery and Whitchurch Silk Mill. In her spare time, she is a keen hockey player and avid gardener.
Michelle Williams
Michelle was initially appointed in April 2022 as a Special Independent Director (SID) as part of Southwark Council’s funded ‘Diversifying Arts Boards – Black on Board’. We are delighted that she decided to stay with us as a Trustee! The LBT has a clear vision and set of values that makes it a desirable organisation to be a part of.
I believe my personal values and lived experiences will enable me to bring a fresh perspective to the trustee board, to build on their sustained success and I hope to make a positive contribution to the journey.
Sharon Collins
Sharon is a senior marketing and brand leader with international experience in professional services, property and the built environment. In her marketing career she has worked with clients within historic buildings, museums and visitor attractions. She was previously Head of Go to Market at BDO and is now the Director of Lone Giraffe Consulting.
Sharon joined the Board of Trustees in October 2022. She brings to the Board her strategic operational experience and deep understanding of how marketing and brand impacts an organisation’s finances, risk profile and reputation. She is thrilled to be playing a part in the future of this unique and fascinating museum.
Rebecca Atkinson
Rebecca is General Counsel at London law firm Howard Kennedy LLP based at London Bridge where she leads on the legal and regulatory implications of the firm’s key decisions, strategies, and transactions. Rebecca has authored three books in the risk and regulatory field.
Rebecca regularly produces written content for compliance publications and provides training. She sits on the Boards for the Law Society of England and Wales and Practical Law Company. She is a huge Lord of the Rings enthusiast, avid walker, and spends as much time as she can in the mountains of Snowdonia!
Laura Crean
Laura Crean is an Assistant Director at the Imperial War Museums, where Laura leads strategic initiatives, oversees governance and partnerships, manages corporate planning, and advocates for culture change. Laura also serves as Head of Planning, Strategy, and Projects.
Laura previously worked on corporate planning and collections management at IWM and held a secondment role focusing on corporate reporting and event management. Laura has experience in project coordination and administration.
Isobel MacAuslan
Isobel is the Adult Engagement Manger at Westminster Abbey where she leads on building a new public programme and community engagement offer for adults. Prior to joining Westminster Abbey, Isobel spent 5 years at the National Army Museum, finishing her time there as the Public Programmes Manager.
She was part of the cross-organisational team that delivered the annual Chelsea History Festival. Her early career was spent working at small museums, including The Museum of the Order of St John and Handel & Hendrix in London. A life-long Londoner, Isobel is passionate about making the city’s historic spaces accessible for as many people as possible.
Angela Hepworth
Angela Hepworth is Commercial Director at Drax where she leads on the development of carbon markets, and frameworks for delivering high integrity carbon removals. Prior to that she worked for EDF where she led the development of plans to build a new nuclear power station at Sizewell.
She started her career in the civil service in the Department for Trade and Industry, developing and implementing policies in a wide range of areas. She is a Powerful Women Ambassador, with a real commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusion.
